“In inventory sampling, only a small number of ‘items’ are checked. For B- and C-class parts, that may be fine, but we would prefer to count A-class items in full.
How are A-class items handled in inventory sampling?”
Answer:
In principle, all items that are defined as population elements (e.g., articles, storage locations, barcode pallet IDs, order positions, etc.) are selected randomly. This random selection is a fundamental feature of sampling and estimation procedures.
However, there is both an obligation and the option to include items of particular importance or value in a so-called full-count stratum. Items placed in this full-count stratum are counted in full – not sampled. Criteria for such classification may include item value, A-class designation, replenishment lead time, and others.
