Inventory sampling

ONLY INVENTORY SAMPLING ENABLES A SUSTAINABLE AND NOTICEABLE REDUCTION IN YOUR INVENTORY COSTS!

KEYFACTS:

  • A full physical inventory requires significant time and effort
  • The existence of a reliable inventory accounting system allows for inventory sampling
  • A small, representative sample (items, storage locations, batches, etc.) is sufficient to verify inventory accuracy
  • Inventory records assume the inventory function
  • The legal requirements for implementation are defined in Section 241 of the German Commercial Code (HGB) (HGB (§ 241)).

The average inventory costs incurred in the context of an inventory count
(preparation, recording, evaluation, entering actual quantities, administration costs, opportunity costs, etc.) account for approximately 2 to 8% of the inventory value during a full inventory. This means that a full inventory incurs effort without creating any added value (Aufwand, der mit keiner Wertschöpfung verbunden ist) for your company.

Inventory sampling (Stichprobeninventur) (§ 241 HGB) vs the only inventory simplification method permitted by law that does not require a complete physical count of all item positions. A key requirement is the existence of a reliable, electronically supported inventory management system. Using statistical sampling methods, the reliability of your inventory records is verified based on a small representative sample.
If your inventory management system „passes“ this check, you may use the results as your legally compliant inventory record.

To carry out inventory sampling, several requirements (§ 241 HGB) must be met. These include the use of a recognized statistical method, compliance with the principles of proper bookkeeping, and the achievement of results as accurate as those of a full inventory.
